Water

Water imageWater is a precious resource.  The effects of climate change are likely to make it become more precious in future.  It is important that we use as little water as possible in performing our role in order to conserve this precious resource.

We’ve managed to reduce our water use over recent years. Compared to 2005/06 we now use 20 million litres of water less per year than we used to. Enough water to supply the city of Oxford for a day.

How have we done it?

  • Metering all our offices and depot sites and setting water reduction targets.
  • Installing rainwater harvesting, low flush toilets, waterless urinals, low flow showers and infra-red activated spray taps in our offices.
  • Installing leak detection equipment at some of our offices.
  • Installing vehicle washing equipment at our depots that recycles the water it uses.
  • Taking environmental performance into account when we select a new office building.

What next?

We will continue to roll out water saving technologies such as those listed above across the rest of our sites where appropriate.
