Environment Protection Advisory Committee (EPAC)

We advise on issues of concern in Yorkshire and North East, especially environmental protection, pollution control, water resources, air quality and waste regulation.

In October 2010, as part of the Arms Length Body Review Defra announced proposals for the Environment Agency’s statutory Environment Protection Advisory Committees (EPACs), and Regional and Local Fisheries Advisory Committees (also known as the Fisheries, Ecology and Recreation Advisory Committee – FERAC) to be abolished in the Public Bodies Bill.

The Defra consultation was launched on the 1 November 2011 and will close on the 23 January 2012. Information can be found on the Defra website.

The committee is made up of a Chairman appointed by the Government and other members nominated by companies we regulate, local authorities, environment groups, agriculture and land organisations.

All committee meetings are open to the public.
