Fisheries, Ecology and Recreation Advisory Committee (FERAC)

We advise on maintaining, improving and developing salmon, trout, freshwater and eel fisheries as well as recreation, navigation and conservations issues.

In October 2010, as part of the Arms Length Body Review Defra announced proposals for the Environment Agency’s statutory Environment Protection Advisory Committees (EPACs), and Regional and Local Fisheries Advisory Committees (also known as the Fisheries, Ecology and Recreation Advisory Committee – FERAC) to be abolished in the Public Bodies Bill.

The Defra consultation was launched on the 1 November 2011 and will close on the 23 January 2012. Information can be found on the Defra website.

There is one FERAC covering the whole of Yorkshire and North East.  The committee is made up of a Chairman appointed by the Government and other members nominated by angling, recreation, conservation and navigation interests.

All committee meetings are open to the public.
