Wales Committees

There are three statutory committees in Wales, each with their own responsibility and each contributing towards making Wales a better place for people and wildlife.

The committees were set up by Parliament under the Environment Act 1995. The committees are made up of external members who have been elected to stand on the committee because of their expertise outside of the Environment Agency.

The committees are an integral part of our work in Wales and developing relationships with external organisations. Members volunteer their services in the interest of the environment and advise us on our performance and policy in Wales. Members are expected to be ‘friendly critics’ and communicators, as well as valued advisors. Members provide guidance and support to Director Wales and advise on environmental protection, fisheries, recreation, flood defence and coastal erosion in Wales.

The committees meet three or four times a year and meetings are open to the public. If you wish to attend, please contact Michelle Duggan.
