North West Committees

There are three statutory committees in the North West, each with their own responsibility and each contributing towards making the North West a better place.

The three committees are made up of external members who have been elected to stand on the committee because of their expertise outside of the Environment Agency. They each provide guidance and support to the North West Director and advise on environmental protection, fisheries, recreation, flood defence and coastal erosion

The committees are an integral part of our work in the North West and are responsible for developing relationships with external organisations.

In October 2010, as part of the Arms Length Body Review, Defra announced proposals for the Environment Agency’s statutory Environment Protection Advisory Committees (EPACs), and Regional and Local Fisheries Advisory Committees (also known as the Fisheries, Ecology and Recreation Advisory Committee – FERAC) to be abolished in the Public Bodies Bill.

The Defra consultation was launched on the 1 November 2011 and will close on the 23 January 2012. Information can be found on the Defra website.
