Air Quality Modelling and Assessment Unit (AQMAU)
AQMAU is the Environment Agency's national focus of expertise on air quality modelling and assessment, providing both leadership and operational support.
We help ensure that air quality modelling and assessments for permit applications, compliance, enforcement and incident investigations are consistent, of a high standard and based on sound science.
Our regulatory role
AQMAU offers advice to businesses on regulatory modelling and assessment of the environmental and health impacts (including air quality, odour, noise and impacts on Habitats sites) of their emissions to air.
We can help with:
- PPC applications
- demonstrating compliance
- incident investigation
- local air quality management
In response to the most common queries and requests received, we have prepared a frequently asked questions and further guidance page to help businesses carry out air quality assessments. If you are still unable to find the information you need, contact us using the details below.
What else do we do?
AQMAU audits operators' submissions, carries out modelling and assessment and meets with operators and protestors groups. We set policy and standards of regulatory modelling of air quality, noise, odour and deposition modelling for the Environment Agency. We give advice on air quality, odour and noise issues, as well as carrying out training, research and development.
