Surface Water Abstraction Directive

How we control the quality of water from rivers, lakes and reservoirs that are used to supply public drinking water

The Surface Water Abstraction Directive was repealed in December 2007 and replaced by amended Water Supply Regulations and the Water Framework Directive drinking water protected areas.

In England and Wales over 600 Drinking Water Protected Areas have been established for surface waters.  Find out more by clicking on the link below:
