Energy crops

Energy crops are plants grown to use as fuel

Short Rotation Coppice (SRC) crops

These are the main energy crops grown. They include quick growing trees like willow.

Miscanthus

This is becoming more popular as an energy crop. Planted in spring, its canes grow in summer and are harvested in winter. This cycle repeats annually for the life of the plant, normally 15 years.

Miscanthus is different from SRC willow as it provides an annual harvest and income to the farmer.
