How we are working with other organisations to support hydropower scheme development.
As an organisation, our overall aim is to create a better place for people and wildlife. But we can't do this on our own. We need our customers, communities, key stakeholders and other European counterparts to help us.
Hydropower is sometimes a complex and challenging form of renewable energy generation. This can give rise to differing views and opinions when schemes are proposed.
We work to support the development of sustainable hydropower whilst making sure that there are appropriate measures to protect the local environment.
We do not do this in isolation. We work with others to develop the solutions to the issues.
Hydropower working group
We have set up a hydropower working group to bring together key representatives from interest groups and partners to secure the delivery of hydropower across England and Wales in an environmentally sustainable way.
The group acts as a forum to:
- consider the potential impacts of hydropower on the environment
- help improve the regulation of hydropower through a range of workstreams, including permitting, technical guidance and catchment approaches
- contribute to the evidence base and technical judgements to enable the best decisions to be taken.
The Environment Agency chairs the hydropower working group which includes representatives from:
Conferences and presentations
