Fit a smoke alarm

Boat fires are even more dangerous than fires on land because they spread more rapidly. Smoke and toxic fumes are especially dangerous, so make sure your boat has a smoke alarm.

Boat Safety Scheme

The Boat Safety Scheme promotes safety on inland waterways. All boats must meet essential safety standards before we issue a navigation licence.      

Most powered boats on Environment Agency Thames and Anglian waters must pass a Boat Safety Scheme Examination and carry a valid Boat Safety Scheme Certificate.
