An Opportunity not to miss

With a fully stocked lake, brand new facilities, expert tuition and very reasonable club joining fees, you’d be mad not to want to start fishing at ‘Tarka Swims’ lake in Bideford.

Bideford Angling Club has strong sea fishing roots, but when we heard about their bid to create a new coarse fishing facility, we joined forces. We were involved from the start in finding and buying the location, through to building, planting and stocking the lake. With a lot of the funding coming from rod licence money, the two-acre lake now has a range of coarse fish and full disabled access – including a toilet block.

At one recent event, we linked up with Great Torrington Community and Sports College to provide a day of expert tuition to 37 pupils and members of staff. Talking of the part he played in the day, coach Steve Bailey said, “Initially I just came along, with the family, to one of the days organised by the Environment Agency. After that we all took up coarse fishing and I’ve gone on to do my level one coaching certificate.”

As Steve discovered, with a great club, fishing and tuition on offer in Bideford, there’s never been a better time to get involved.
