2011 progress update

A summary of 2011 results for surface waters (rivers, lakes, transitional and coastal) can be viewed below. Please note that simple comparison with the 2009 baseline results is not possible as changes to status could be due to methodological changes (for instance using data from a greater number of quality indicators) rather than genuine environmental change. A true assessment of progress will be made in 2015 when the current river basin cycle is complete.

For further queries relating to the classification process or to request more detailed data please contact the Environment Agency’s National Customer Contact Centre (NCCC) in the first instance.
