SEA Environmental Reports for the River Basin Management Plans

The Water Framework Directive requires the production of River Basin Management Plans across the UK.

These plans require assessment under the Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) Directive (2001/42/EC) to identify wider effects on the environment. The environmental report presents the methodology we used in the SEA, an explanation of how environmental factors have been considered within the decision-making, and the results and conclusions of the SEA process.

Before we assessed the plans' environmental impacts and produced the environmental reports, we carried out public consultation on the Scoping Reports between 12th October 2007 and 24th January 2008. We took account of comments we received during the assessment stage.

The Environmental Reports contain three specific consultation questions which are embedded in the reports:

  • Do you agree with the enhancement and mitigation opportunities presented in Tables 4, 10A and 10B to address the environmental effects identified?
  • Can you suggest any other environmental indicator(s) we should monitor in relation to the significant environmental effects identified?
  • Do you have any other comments on the Strategic Environmental Assessment process or its findings?

This consultation runs from 22 December 2008 until 22 June 2009. Consultation comments should be returned to the NEAS officers named within each report.
