How to comply with your environmental permit for the cement industry

Sector guidance note on the best available techniques for cement works

Start date: 27 January 2010
End date: 21 April 2010

Consultation summary

We have produced a new Sector Guidance Note (SGN) that describes our views on the Best Available Techniques (BAT) for cement works and the associated maximum releases to the environment when using these techniques. It is based on a revised EU BAT-Reference (Bref) Document for the industry. The new SGN is intended as guidance for our own inspectors and for operators of cement works. We want to hear your views on these techniques and the Indicative BAT release levels and whether you think there is anything else we should have included.

How to respond and view the consultation documents

We would prefer you to respond online. If you respond online or provide us with an email address, we will acknowledge your response and send you a summary of responses after the consultation has closed. We will also publish the summary of responses on our website. If you wish your responses to remain confidential you should indicate this clearly.

Alternatively you can respond by post to:

John Isherwood, Lutra House, Dodd Way, Walton Summit, Bamber Bridge, Preston, PR5 8BX

Or you can email John Isherwood.

What happens next?

When the consultation closes on 21 April 2010, we will collate and publish a summary of the response on the internet. We will use the responses to decide whether any changes are needed to the sector guidance note. We expect to finalise the guidance note and make it available on our website by the beginning of May and it will be used to inform decisions for permit variations for cement works after that.
