Our adaptation strategy

Our revised Climate Change Adaptation Strategy (2008-11) outlines how we intend to 'climate proof' our organisation, considering climate change impacts in all our work. From flood risk management and water resources to agriculture and waste, it proposes a significant increase in our work in this area. The strategy outlines how all the major policy areas of our business will work together to develop a better understanding of how climate change will impact on them and what we can do to adapt.

The Environment Agency has major responsibilities for managing and adapting to the effects of climate change, particularly:

  • flooding
  • droughts
  • sea level rise
  • coastal erosion.

We are leading by example to forge a coherent national response to the economic, social and environmental consequences of future climate change risks.
