Expensive day’s fishing for Halesowen angler

A man from Halesowen, West Midlands was fined a total of 500 GBP on Friday 20 February 2009, at Welshpool Magistrates Court after being found guilty in his absence of fishing without a rod licence and giving a false name and address at Bryn Melin Pools, Machynlleth on 13 July 2008.

He was also ordered to pay costs of  175 GBP and a victim surcharge of 15 GBP.

People who avoid buying a rod licence are cheating their fellow anglers. All the money raised from licence sales is put straight back into improving the environment for wildlife and anglers.

The outcome of this case demonstrates that our officers are on the riverbank and if anyone is caught flouting the law they will be punished.  Buying a licence couldn't be easier - there are around 15,000 Post Offices and other outlets which sell them direct, they can be purchased over the phone on 0844 800 5386 or from our web site www.environment-agency.gov.uk/rodlicence
