Get Hooked on Fishing comes to Immingham

‘Get Hooked On Fishing’ North East Lincolnshire is just 2 years old. But in that time over 500 young people have been involved with the project.

‘Get Hooked On Fishing’ sets up and runs junior angling taster sessions and longer term coaching lessons for young people. The project has a particular interest in reaching those youngsters who come from disadvantaged backgrounds and those that are more likely to become involved in crime.

Fisheries team leader Caroline Tero commented ‘We’ve found that involvement in angling increases self esteem, self worth, communication skills and personal development. Local schools and youth workers report increased attendance at school and a decrease in juvenile crime levels.’

As well as taking on the management of 1.2ha Homestead Lake in Immingham ‘Get Hooked on Fishing’ NE Lincolnshire has just launched a website.   This offers an online resource for all those involved or thinking about becoming involved with angling participation in Lincolnshire.

Now ‘Get Hooked on Fishing’ Peterborough has been launched. Work has already started and local coaches Ian and Molly Donald have been out with young people providing angling sessions in the last few weeks.

Volunteers to help with these and other angling participation schemes are always needed. Why not become a helper or even a coach!
