The tidal River Thurne has always provided good fishing for local and visiting anglers alike, and was the setting for the 1966 World Angling Championships. And with 13 new angling platforms, the facilities are now even better.
Working closely with the Broads Angling Strategy Group, we’ve improved angling access to the popular Broadland Rivers to create better fishing opportunities.
“We’ve installed seven new easy-access fishing platforms, at Potter Heigham, to make a total of ten platforms on this particular stretch of water,” explains fisheries officer Tom Howard. “These can be used during peak holiday periods, when the other 24 moorings are busy. We also plan to install disabled access paths to each of the platforms and carry out vital flood defence works in the area.
“At Martham Ferry we’ve also installed six new angling platforms, and the Broadland Flood Alleviation Project has improved the flood-bank footpath at this popular venue.”
With most of the work now complete, we hope that people will visit the new platforms and enjoy some wonderful fishing in the scenic Norfolk countryside.
