Tips and ideas for your fishing trip this summer

Rivers Trusts’ fishing schemes

Why not visit the South West, North of England or Wales this summer? You could fish in some wild and beautiful locations for both game and coarse fish.

Thanks to the Rivers Trusts there are now some great fishing schemes offering affordable day fishing on some stunning waters, many previous exclusive.

To find out more about these opportunities check out the schemes for the The Wye and Usk Foundation, West Country Rivers Trust, The Eden Trust, and The Tyne Rivers Trust.

River levels

The Wye & Usk Foundation website also has a range of free web cams showing river levels on its rivers - invaluable if you're planning a trip.

For an overview of how we are support many of the Rivers Trusts to improve the environment and create new fishing opportunities up and down England and Wales visit the Association of Rivers Trusts website.

Keeping an eye on the weather

Before setting out on your fishing trip you will no doubt want to study the weather and if possible the river conditions. Key things to look for are temperature, wind direction and cloud cover. There are now many websites giving up to the minute reports on the local weather conditions and forecasts for the weeks ahead. Look at the links and find out if you’ll be applying the factor 30 or huddling under the brolly when you set out!

River levels can also be critical to the success of your trip. Some of the Rivers Trusts referred to above have reports of river conditions on their websites and others even have webcams so you can see the gauge boards and levels for yourself.

We also provide information on river level and condition through our telephone service Rivercall. This provides information for popular rivers in four of our regions in England and for 31 rivers in Wales.
