Our role in conservation and ecology
We are working to create a better place for wildlife by helping the Government achieve the goals in the UK Biodiversity Action Plan.
Wildlife matters
There have been major improvements in water and air quality over the past ten years. Many of our rivers, canals and estuaries are cleaner now than before the Industrial Revolution.
But some of our wildlife is still under threat. Damage to habitats, pollution, increased demands for water, drought and non-native invasive species are all putting pressures on wildlife. Climate change is adding to these pressures.
What we're doing to help
The Government has a target to halt the loss of wildlife by 2010 and we are doing our bit to help. We work with many organisations to protect and restore valuable habitats and the plants and animals that live in them.
