Tidal Dee Flood Risk Management Strategy

Have your say on the future of flood risk management in the Dee estuary up to Chester

Starting Date: 10 November 2009
Closing Date: 10 January 2010

Background

We are working with organisations, businesses and communities to develop a range of solutions to help manage the risk of tidal flooding in north Wales.

The coastline from Pensarn, near Abergele, around the Point of Ayr and down the Dee estuary is recognised as being most at risk of tidal flooding. This area is home to tens of thousands of people and a large number of businesses, vital to the local economy.

What have we done and what will we be doing?

Since March 2009, in the first phase of developing the Strategy, we have worked with Local Authorities and others, looking at a wide range of environmental factors. This has been done through a process known as Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA). An SEA summary report can be downloaded from the link below; this provides feedback on what stakeholders told us.

Between now and the end of the year we are talking to local communities and businesses to find out what people think about the different approaches that can be taken to tackle risks of flooding now and in the future.
