Isle of Axholme Flood Risk Management Strategy Environmental Scoping Consultation Document

We welcome your responses on the Environmental Scoping Consultation Document, part of the Strategic Environmental Assessment for the Isle of Axholme strategy.

Starting Date: 29 January 2010
Closing Date: 12 March 2010

Consultation summary

The Isle of Axholme Flood Risk Management Strategy (IoAFRMS) will set a framework for the strategic management of flood risk over the next 100 years in the Isle of Axholme catchment. This covers the area between the west bank of the River Trent and Doncaster, bounded to the north by the River Ouse and to the south by high ground between Misterton and Bawtry.

The area is primarily drained by the Rivers Idle and Torne. The strategy will identify measures to manage flood risk to people, property and the environment in a sustainable manner.

We are working with organisations, businesses and communities to develop a range of solutions to help deal with flooding issues in this area.

As part of the development of the IoAFRMS, we will be undertaking a Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA). This enables us to identify environmental problems and opportunities relevant to the strategy study area and to ensure they are considered as we develop the options for managing flood risk.

How to respond

The environmental scoping consultation document, available below, presents the longer list of options, environmental baseline information on the study area, and explains how we intend to carry out the environmental assessment of these options. Throughout the document there are targeted questions, which are all included on the response form, also available below. In addition there is an opportunity for any other comments you feel are relevant.

We will be talking to the local community in advance of the preferred options being determined for the strategy.

When the consultation closes on 12 March 2010, any comments will be taken into account by the SEA which influences the development of the strategy.
