Household water metering in England and Wales

Read about our position on household water metering, the issues affecting metering and what we think the solutions are.

We support the outcome of the Walker Review of Charging and Metering for Water and Sewerage Services that the future charging system for water should in general be based on a metered system. Metering helps reduce household demand for water, and therefore reduces abstraction.

We recognise that water affordability is an issue for some customers. We acknowledge that a solution to this issue needs to be developed alongside any proposal to apply metering more widely.
