The latest State of the Environment information for the East Midlands.
Please note that government planning policy has changed. The administrative boundary used for State of the Environment reporting on this site will be reviewed in light of these changes once details are known. Meanwhile we will continue to make available environmental evidence to the boundaries at which it was gathered.
The East Midlands
The East Midlands includes the counties of Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, and Nottinghamshire, as well as the unitary authorities of Rutland, City of Derby, City of Leicester and City of Nottingham.
The East Midlands is a varied region, with landscape ranging from upland moorlands to fens. This diverse environment is important for our quality of life and provides a wide range of wildlife habitats, some of which are important for rare species; but it is at risk of damage due from pressures such as water abstraction, pollution, fragmentation of habitat areas, and flooding.
We need to protect our environment to prevent lasting damage and permanent change.
